Surpass Your Instinct

In case if you don’t already recognize that book, it’s called Supernormal Stimuli by Deirdre Barrett. It talks about how modern world is not suited for our slowly-evolved instinct; she stated that human instinct is mainly not evolved fast enough for this rapid-pace and garish modern world nowadays.

Barrett said that our instinct is created for environment much like 10,000 years ago.

Recording Songs

For the record, I was already going to make a review about: Tidal vs. Spotify. But I assume that would be too complicated and too long to be put in any blog.

Simply put, if you’re already satisfied enough with AAC 320kbps, go for Spotify. But if you’re an audiophile which has very sensitive ears and want to experience the best sound quality — that is, FLAC 1,411kbps — then Tidal is the obvious choice.

Fun fact: Spotify subscription price in Indonesia is cheaper than in Singapore. I’m both happy and sad because this implies that Singapore is more prosperous than Indonesia — which is quite apparent.

Swarm of Entertainment

The first thought that came to mind was a swarm of insects, especially bees—probably too obvious. But I feel that would be too easy, so I opted for something more… unusual.Capture 2

I notice that nowadays, I can find many choices of entertainment these days—and I mean A LOT. Like games, videos, or music they provide pleasures we can obtain easily. But for me it’s hard to find entertainment—from now I’m talking about music—that aligns with my mood and preferences.

Arduino

Simplistic Calculator

You read that right.

Several days ago, me and my friends were working on an Arduino project for a certain subject—Human and Computer Interaction to be precise. Fortunately, we weren’t doing this at 2 o’clock in the morning; instead, we were doing this project at around 5 p.m.

Even to convince my friends was hard work. I had to buy several rather expensive components, then storm through the heavy rain. I couldn’t just join my friends; well, I had this assignment that needed to take care of first.

Eventually, I joined and bought both of my friends some snacks. Fortunately, this time it wasn’t raining. After done with the assignment, I stayed for a while—until maybe 9 p.m.—and went home when I exactly had to pee; there was no water there (My friend said it was not unusual). We enjoyed our times, I hope. Continue reading

Grimmer but Hopefully Brighter

Adopting AI.jpg

I doubt that I will benefit completely from the advancement of technology. I read several tech news and I have to admit, it’s both appealing and appalling to me. Artificial Intelligence is now ubiquitous; you can read the news for yourself.

There are several examples which I found… brilliant. Those are: Amper Music, Ford’s Autolivery, and Ozlo. They’re fully utilizing the true potential of AI, making their business remarkably profitable while, uh…, let’s say reducing cost of hiring people.  Continue reading

Readers’ Folly

Fake News.PNGThanks to one of The Mind of Noxs posts, I suddenly able to change the topic concerning this prompt: Folly. To be honest, I already changed topic about five times about this prompt. This is one of the hardest prompts, in my opinion.

Yeah! A not-so-typical topic. 😀

In my country, there was this fuss about fake news. And it’s not without reasons. One of the reasons is because it’s profitable. If you do not believe it, check this news about a fake news factory at Macedonia. Even there’s a website that allows you to create fake news.

Displaying Distance by Using Ultrasonic Sensor and Two 7-Segments

This is the third project of Human Interaction and Computer (II3231) subject.

This time, we have to combine one (or more) 7-Segment sensors with another sensor—anything. So, we made a tool to measure distance by utilizing Arduino Uno.

Oh, before I forget, we made this at 2 o’clock in the morning. It just so happened that my friend randomly wanted to make this project at that time.

Okay, here are the tools and materials for this project: Continue reading

Translating a Manifesto. Can I Do That?

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

When I read the prompt today, I had to think very hard. “What was there to tell about translation?” Apparently, it took me about an hour researching what to tell.

I remembered that famous manifesto—or essay, call is as you will—made by Mark Zuckerberg. I still think I can’t translate it quite right.

Reading an essay consists of 5,735 words is exhausting me. It requires a lot of energy to read and translate what he really means. It’s like reading a science journal, when you have to dissect every part of the essay then interpret it using your own words.

All right, here are the main points I got from reading his essay: Continue reading
