Strong Roots

Pohon depan ITB
A couple of trees with strong roots, but unfortunately never used for shelters.

It actually reminds me of people who are very smart, creative and brilliant who aren’t used by society because they couldn’t fit.

Amazingly, these trees didn’t collapse when the heavy rain stormed the city several days ago. I guess strong roots expand your life span, somehow.

Gray Days

Mendung.jpg
It’s literally gray when it feels like it’s going to rain heavily. In the city where I live now, the rain has schedules. Sometimes it’s going to rain at 1 p.m. or 2, sometimes at 7 p.m. The question is why?

I just want to see the sunny days for at least a week straight without them being grays. I’m fed up with the fact that in Indonesia, now’s supposed to be a dry season where it’s theoretically nonsense to rain heavily almost everyday. And it makes my days gray.

Measure a Student’s Worth

Imagine Cup - Cimol Team

I don’t blame companies who prefer hire talented and students who already achieve so much in their academic. But, the problem is what will happen to those who never join any competitions or achieve anything worth noticing. Are they still worth something?

Apart from something quantified like GPA — and achievements and sorts — companies usually consider the projects they’ve done and their expertise to measure a student’s worth. If you’re an expert at lip service, there’s a high chance that you can convince them to hire you. But, are we worth something than that, or even less? Continue reading

Unraveled Society

History Quote.jpg
A society that does not learn history is a society starting to unravel (inspired from here). Although there’s a quote quotes Napoleon saying, but I believe there’s still truth to history.

Supernormal Stimuli book said that human species were created to learn, to adapt to changes around them so they could survive. . . and create history. It’s the only way to keep the society from disintegrating and unraveling; we need to keep moving. Continue reading

Blindly Accepts

The Eyes are Blind
One of my junior high school teachers used to say, “Books are the windows to the knowledge available on this lovely Earth.” He wasn’t wrong; reading is a very effective method to increase our knowledge and gaining new insights.

But accepting the facts blindly read or heard makes you misinformed, and the consequences can be severe. You can end up hating the innocent people and defending the unjust ones. And in this post-truth era, you can’t really sure what’s right and wrong. Continue reading

Choosing to Live in Denial

Living in Denial Quote

Avoiding confrontation of or refusing to admit that reality or problems exist is easy. I do it regularly. Especially when someone — for instance, my college teacher — is comparing me to other people who are more successful than me in terms of college achievements, I’m suddenly entering the state of denial.

I mean, what’s wrong if I’m not as good as them? I want to be whoever I want without being pressured to be someone else I don’t acquaint with. Some people should just realize that comparing people actually can cause to backfire — instead of motivating, it’s discouraging them. Continue reading
